United Way Campaign
United Way of Alexander County live and silent auction is Saturday, November 2nd in the Davis Hall at First Baptist Church in Taylorsville. Pizza, chick-fil-a sandwiches, chips and drinks will be available to purchase starting at 5:00 pm. All auction items will be available to view before the auction starts at 6:00 pm. Stephen Hendren will conduct the auction bringing his expertise and adding a little friendly bidding competition.
Gail Drum, Executive Director, says “there are some great auction items. We have a golf cart, 4 wheeler trailer with some great items included, furniture, pillows, Christmas items, Panther tickets, Tweetsie tickets, Discovery Place tickets, Crawdads VIP package, wood carving of Lucas Mansion from Eddie Hamrick, hand crafted adirondack chair, outdoor fireplace, pottery & paintings, mirrors, gift cards from local restaurants, gift card for green fees plus so much more”.
Ms. Drum says “the proceeds from the auction sales will go directly to the ten local agencies”.

United Way Campaign
United Way of Alexander County will have a live auction and silent auction on Saturday, November 2nd at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Gail Drum, Executive Director, says “the Board of Directors and I are very excited about this year’s fundraiser. We are going to have a lot of fun with this event. Stephen Hendren will be the auctioneer and will bring excitement in raising the bids. We all love some friendly competition”. There will be pizzas and Chick-fil-a sandwiches along with chips and drinks available to purchase during the event. The viewing of the auction items will begin at 5:00 pm and the actual auction will start at 6:00 pm.
Ms. Drum says "we have some great items to auction off and to bid on in the silent auction. She said we have items from a golf cart, 4-wheel trailer will a helmet and a riding jacket along with other small things, upholstered and case good furniture, pottery from local potters and artist, creative baskets filled with all kinds of goodies to restaurant gift cards. Ms. Drum says Eddie Hamrick a nationally known master craftsman will do a special woodcarving of the Lucas Mansion”.
Mr. Hamrick was ranked as the 7th best furniture designer in the world at the High Point Furniture Market. He has been a North Carolina State Craftsman each year since 1990. He has received Business Awards for Arts and Humanities from Governor Martin and Governor Hunt and recently as Governor McCrory. He has spent time as a guest on the PBS shows 120 times. He was responsible for rebuilding of the Murray’s Mill in Catawba County. He has crafted pieces for both President George Bush that now rests at the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum. He also has a few pieces at the Washington DC Smithsonian. He has carved the interiors of the sanctuaries at Saint Luke’s, Holy Trinity, St. John’s and Mt. Pisgah plus a large statue of Christ at Lutheran Home Chapel.
