GAS GIVEAWAY>read more!
United Way of Alexander County Board of Directors will be selling 1,000 tickets for this year’s fundraiser.  Ticket donations of $5.00 will run from May 1 – July 31, 2008.  The reverse drawings will take place on Saturday, August 2nd at the United Way “Goes to the Dogs” Bark in the Park kickoff at Matheson Park.  The reverse drawings are:  1st - $100; 2nd - $250; 3rd - $500; 4th - $750 and 5th - $1,000.  You do not have to be present to win. 
You will receive gas cards that can be used at Wal-Mart in Taylorsville and Hickory on Hwy 64-70.

To purchase tickets you can call the United Way office at 632-9565 or from Board members:  Chris Bowman, Hank Byrd, Marie Chapman, Ron Downs, Rick French, Andrew Jackson, Jennifer Martin, Dr. Jeff Peal, Jeff Roseberry, Berenda Samples, Ryan Sergent, Dennis Smart, Trudy Wike.

Girls Investigating Real Life Science Day Camp

August 4-7, 2008

First United Methodist Church,Taylorsville

Girls will also get dirty digging for gems at the Hiddenite Emerald Mines, where they will learn about geology and how to sluice for gemstones. The week continues with visits to the Catawba Science Center to explore the planetarium and aquarium and Foothill Gymnastics to do somersaults, cartwheels and flips! Conclude the week as safari chicks as you travel to the Lazy 5 Ranch to learn about the more than 750 animals from six different continents. The cost is $95 and is offered to rising first- to fifth-graders who are non-Girl Scouts.
