We
are actively invested in our community. Since
1979, the United Way of Alexander County has been funding health
and human services in our community. United Way campaign dollars support
a network of local agencies, addressing community problems 365 days
a year.
The
United Way of Alexander County is a grassroots effort ro
raise funds for 10 nonprofit organizations serving Alexander
County residents and visitors. A single contribution to the
United Way campaign supports the work of all these groups.
In addition to single contributions, the United Way works with
employers to offer payroll deductions for employees. The funds
raised by the United Way campaign allows the member agencies
to spend more time serving the community and less time fund
raising.
Decades
of successful campaigns are a testament to the great work of
member agencies as well as the dedication of our volunteers
and contributors. Thank you to everyone who has contributed
to the success of the United Way of Alexander County.
The
United Way system includes more than 1,300 community-based
United Way organizations. Each is independent and governed
by local volunteers.
Our
experience tells us that the best way to help the most people
is to focus on the root causes of a community's most serious
problems. It takes the whole community--working together--to
pull it off.
So
we bring together people from all across the community--people
from government, business, faith groups, nonprofits, the labor
movement, and ordinary citizens--to tackle the issues that
matter most. If it requires fundraising, going to Town Hall,
or just getting people to work together, that's what we do.
United
Way is focused on the results: the lives we change and the
communities we shape. We know that's what matters to you.
Our
Mission: To
increase the organized capacity of people to care for one
another.
Our
Purpose: To
stimulate interest and participation in and to promote the
adequate financing of united civic effort in behalf of essential
local, state, national, and international social efforts and
services.
To
promote a better distribution of health, welfare, charitable,
recreational, and character building services throughout the
Alexander County area in relationships to existing needs and
problems.
To
promote the proper development and support of all accepted
public and private agencies dealing with social problems.
To
assure effective and economical fund-raising campaigns, intelligent,
and equitable distribution of funds, and the conservation of
the time and energies of community volunteers.
To
organize and operate a United Way and to conduct an annual
fund-raising campaign through which approved local, state and
national health, welfare, charitable, recreational, and character-building
activities and services may jointly appeal for voluntary contributions.
Our
Vision: We will build a stronger America by mobilizing our
communities to improve people's lives.
