4-H has a positive effect on local youth!

The
United Way monies that Alexander County 4-H receives helps provide
educational programs to 610 youth in 31 community and after school
clubs, reach 841 youth through six hours of special
interest educational programs, and provide embryology and other
science curriculum to 163 classrooms and 3454 youth.
Also United Way funds
4-H scholarships to limited resource families to attend workshops,
day camps and overnight residential camps. In 2007, the Alexander County 4-H Program reached 5,133 youth
with educational programs and activities.
Most
importantly the money received from United
Way provides adult volunteer leadership
training to the 478 volunteers that help implement the 4-H program.

* Available through the North Carolina Cooperative Extension- Alexander County Center and North Carolina State University
* Serve girls and boys in Alexander County ages 5-18 years old
* Reach youth through community, project and after school 4-H clubs, special interest workshops, day camps, overnight camps and school enrichment programs
* Provides opportunities for all youth of Alexander County- not just members
* All United Way funds are spent on youth and volunteers in Alexander County
* Currently reaches 82% of all youth ages 5-18 in Alexander County
