ALFA
has a mission in Alexander County
I
would like to say thank you to Alexander Central High School for
being so supportive of ALFA’s mission in Alexander County! ACHS is the only school in the
county that has opened its doors to the mission of HIV/AIDS
and the message of prevention. We truly enjoy presenting
abstinence-based education programs to their students, and
wish them and all the residents of Alexander County good health. Education is the key
to preventing a disease that has no cure.
QUICK FACTS ABOUT ALFA

2- ALFA provides free and confidential client services to more than 220 individuals living with HIV/AIDS each year.
3- ALFA provides free, culturally and linguistically sensitive HIV prevention education programs to more than 14,000 people each year in English and Spanish.

6- OraQuick Advance HIV 1/HIV 2 Antibody test is quick, simple, and painless. With a swab of the upper and lower gum line, results are given in just 20 minutes. The test is portable, so if you prefer, ALFA staff can come to you, in your county, instead of coming to us.
7- ALFA offers volunteer, community service and internship opportunities to the community.
8- Volunteer opportunities include pantry shopping, client transporters, event preparation and assistance, education at fairs and festivals, office assistance (data entry, answer phones, copies, etc), scrapbooking, peer education.
9- HIV/AIDS is not spread through casual contact like answering phones, providing transportation, using the same bathroom as others, eating or drinking after others, hugging, kissing, or shaking the hand of someone who is HIV+.
10- HIV is transmitted from a person who has HIV/AIDS to another person through unprotected sex, needle sharing, blood-to-blood contact, or mother-to-child.
